US President Donald Trump announced Tuesday he is indefinitely extending the ceasefire with Iran, originally set to expire, to facilitate ongoing peace talks. The decision comes as a war, now in its seventh week, has resulted in significant casualties and global economic disruption.

Pakistan, mediating the peace discussions, requested the extension. Trump stated the ceasefire would continue until Iran's leadership can present a unified proposal. He cited the Iranian government as "seriously fractured," alluding to recent US-Israeli actions against some of its leaders. The US Navy's blockade of Iranian ports will persist.

It remains uncertain if Iran or Israel will formally agree to the extended ceasefire, which began two weeks prior.
