Aston Villa vs Everton - Premier League: Live score and latest updates

What happened the last time Everton visited Villa? (Look away Toffees)

There were boos just two games into the 2023-24 season as Everton were crushed 4-0 on their visit to Villa Park last year.

Goals from Douglas Luiz, John McGinn, Leon Bailey, and Jhon Duran did the damage on a woeful afternoon for the Toffees - and a gleeful one for the Holte End.

Goodison pint glasses

Bit of a fun one here - there's a chance to win an Everton-themed pint glass if you can successfully guess the minute Ashley Young gets booked today.

The 39-year-old has picked up 84 yellow cards in his Premier League career.

Sean Dyche plays down concerns over his future

Everton's propsective new owner, John Textor, ruffled a few feathers when he said he would need to have a conversation with Sean Dyche to make sure he aligns with his vision for the Toffees.

But the battle-hardened Englishman insisted it is all part and parcel of leading a football club.

The line-ups are out

The line-ups are here and it's a return to Villa Park for Ashley Young, Idrissa Gana Gueye, and Tim Oroegbunam. Amadou Onana, meanwhile, is up against the Toffees after his summer move and he has already found his scoring boots this season...

Emery urges fan unity

In their most serene period of football in this century, Aston Villa's chiefs havs caused disarray with their Champions League ticket prices marginalising many fans.

With a protest planned, Unai Emery has urged the supporter base to effectively grit their teeth through the financial pain.

Everton debuting a fresh kit

The Toffees are giving a run out to their new third kit today. Thoughts?

Sean Dyche already tackling a blaze?

Mail Sport understands that Everton's hierarchy retain full faith in Sean Dyche and that his job is safe.

He has credit in the bank from a testing couple of seasons, during which time he has steered them to safety - just about all you can ask considering their off-pitch plight.

But the vote of confidence is not an eternal guarantee and while defeat by Villa would hardly be shameful, bosses will want to see points on the board with matches against Leicester and Crystal Palace later this month.

A huge week ahead for Villa

Villa fans would be forgiven for having one eye on the fixture beyond their assignment today.

On Tuesday the club mark their return to Europe's elite competition for the first time since the 1982-83 season - an unthinkable gap considering they won the European Cup the season before.

They're against Switzerland's BSC Young Boys in the Champions League on Tuesday but Unai Emery will want his men fully focused on today.

Opposite moods

If you're an Aston Villa fan, besides the ticket prices and overflowing toilets - which we'll get to - you're having the time of your life.

Unai Emery's side have started the season strongly with a couple of wins under their belt from the opening three games.

Everton? They're here today hoping to slake their thirst for a first point, having lost all three games so far - including that devastating late capitulation against Bournemouth last time out.
