Fans stunned as Joelinton brings down Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto

Fans were left shocked that Newcastle star Joelinton wasn't sent off for bringing down Bournemouth goalkeeper Neto.

The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game at the Vitality Stadium, with Joelinton only receiving a yellow card after grabbing Neto's neck.

Neto was left livid following the incident, with Bournemouth's frustration compounded by the fact that Dango Ouattara had a goal controversially ruled out during an eventful end to the game.

The game ended 1-1, with Marcus Tavernier having given Bournemouth the lead before Anthony Gordon levelled for Newcastle in the second half.

However, after the game there was a lot of focus on the Joelinton incident.

One user wrote: 'Joelinton should have seen red for his foul on the goal keeper.'

Meanwhile, another added: 'Just seen that Joelinton incident. How's that not a redcard'.

Another user added that they were 'losing their mind' that Joelinton wasn't dismissed.

They wrote: 'Still losing my mind that Joelinton wasn’t given a straight red for that move you know'.

Furthermore, another stated: 'That Joelinton challenge on the keeper is a shocker, Should've been a red'.

In addition, another user was adamant that Joelinton's actions were 'violent conduct'.

They wrote: 'How has Joelinton not been sent off btw? Is that not violent conduct?'.

Another user wrote: 'Probably shouldn't need VAR for that Joelinton one should we? Like what's the ref playing at?'.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe admitted that Joelinton's actions were 'reckless' and added that he would talk to the player about it.

Howe told Sky Sports: 'It's probably a little bit reckless, you can see what he was trying to do but you can't go near the head area. That's something we will talk to him about.'
