Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher reveals desire to leave club

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has admitted it was 'not 100 per cent' his decision to stay at Anfield this summer and reiterated his desire to leave and fight to be a No 1 somewhere else.

Kelleher, 25, surprised a few fans by staying put at Liverpool this summer, though there was not as much interest as expected after a decent campaign last season.

Nottingham Forest made a late bid to sign him but the lowball offer was rejected. Liverpool also signed £29million goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia as they sought to commence succession planning for Alisson Becker's eventual exit.

And Irishman Kelleher has now insisted his future was not wholly in his hands this summer.

'I think I've made it clear in the last few years that I want to go and be a No 1 and play week in, week out,' said Kelleher, speaking ahead of the Republic of Ireland's Nations League clash with Greece.

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has revealed his desire to leave the club to be a No 1

'The club have made that decision to get another goalkeeper in as well which, obviously from the outside looking in, looks like they've made a decision to go in a different direction.

'My ambitions have always been clear the last few seasons that I want to go and be a No 1.

'Sometimes from the outside looking in, it looks like maybe that's 100 per cent my decision but maybe at times it's not always in my hands as well.'
