Paul Scholes SLAMS one Man United summer signing after loss to Spurs

Paul Scholes has slammed one of Manchester United's summer signings following their dismal 3-0 defeat by Tottenham at Old Trafford.

Spurs completely bossed the game on Sunday and should have been more than 1-0 in front when United captain Bruno Fernandes was sent off for a foul on James Maddison in the 42nd minute.

Brennan Johnson had fired Spurs ahead in the third minute following a stunning assist by Micky van de Ven. Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke then added goals against United's 10 men in the second half but Spurs also missed multiple big chances to score more.

Sunday's result left United with just seven points from their first six games in the Premier League this season, and it comes after a huge summer of recruitment.

Scholes believes Matthijs de Ligt, who joined from Bayern Munich for £43million, has not made a difference to United's defence.

‘When you bring players in, you expect them to be a lot better than who you’ve already got. I don’t see players coming in who are a big difference,’ the former midfielder said on SuperSport.

‘De Ligt has come in for Maguire, let’s say, but there’s no big difference there.

Asked whether the Dutchman is an upgrade on former club captain Maguire, Scholes responded: ‘No, absolutely not.’

Earlier in his rant, Scholes didn't hold back in his assessment of United under Erik ten Hag's management, saying: ‘You don’t know how they’re going to play.

‘You don’t know how they’re going to approach games, whether they are going to play on the counter-attack or sit deep or whether they’re going to try to have all the possession in the game. We’ve no idea. They look like an uncoached football team.

‘We’re two and a bit years in now… from the first week Ange Postecoglou went in, we probably knew what Tottenham were doing and they’re doing it to this day.

‘We’re two and a bit years down the road [at United] and, as I said, it’s an uncoached team.

‘The players looked dead today, they looked flat, they looked, “I don’t know what to do”, there’s no enthusiasm for the game of football and that can only come from the training pitch.

‘Some of the positions that people take up on the pitch, it’s just madness at times.’
