Ronaldo jokingly apologises to Buffon during Champions League draw

Ronaldo and Buffon were both present in Monaco on Thursday as the inaugural draw for the league phase of the Champions League took place.

The topic of Ronaldo's sensational strike was brought up during the coverage of the draw, with the Portuguese star smiling while telling Buffon that he was sorry.

Ronaldo's goal past a stranded Buffon came in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League in Turin.

Real Madrid won 3-0 in Italy and progressed by a scoreline of 4-3 on aggregate despite losing 3-1 in the second leg.

Cristiano Ronaldo jokingly apologised to Gianluigi Buffon for his bicycle kick goal for Real Madrid against Juventus in 2018

Real went on to win the Champions League that year as they beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final.

Buffon and Ronaldo eventually became team-mates at Juventus, with Ronaldo joining the Italian side in 2018 and the goalkeeper returning to the club the following year after a short spell at Paris Saint-Germain. They both remained in Italy until 2021.

Juventus won the Serie A title in the 2019-20 season and the Coppa Italia in the following campaign.

Ronaldo then returned to Manchester United before signing for Al-Nassr.

Buffon, meanwhile, also went back to one of his old clubs in Parma prior to retiring in 2023.
