American midfield star Tyler Adams believes that the United States needs to go after a certain style of coach in their next hire.
The USMNT fired former coach Gregg Berhalter after a dismal showing at the Copa America where the team won just one game and lost to both Panama and Uruguay.
It led to the team crashing out of a tournament that they may not have been favorites to win, but they were at least expected to get out of the group stage
Speaking to Men In Blazers, Adams said, 'For myself and the young team and kind of where we're at, I think we need someone that's almost a little bit ruthless coming in and putting everyone in their place and understanding that 'listen, this is what needs to be done and this is the way that we're gonna do it.'
'And there's no really ifs, ands or buts, it's not really a conversation, it has to be more of a decision that's made and this is the way we're gonna play.'
Tyler Adams shared his thoughts on the type of manager the USMNT will need in the future
With a World Cup on home soil coming in just two years, the midfielder believes US Soccer has to approach this next coaching hire in a similar style to how the Premier League conducts itself.
'I think that's always the best way when you have a short period of time,' he added. 'You see it in the Premier League all the time when managers gets sacked after three games, four games, the best way to get results is bringing someone in and having someone that you know what they're going to do before they even come in.
'I don't think we have a huge amount of time if everyone wants to focus on the goal is 2026 World Cup and we want the best result possible then you have to get someone who's gotten results.'
US Soccer has been conducting a search for a top coach that can, 'maximize our potential as we continue to prepare for the 2026 World Cup,' according to sporting director Matt Crocker.
Two names have already publicly pulled themselves out of contention: German manager Jurgen Klopp, who recently stepped back from coaching Liverpool, and Hoffenheim boss Pellegrino Matarazzo.
But according to The Athletic, the federation is in advanced talks with former Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino.
Pochettino worked alongside Matt Crocker, the sporting director of U.S. soccer, during his time as Southampton coach with Crocker leading the team's academy.
This comes amidst reports that the US Soccer Federation is in talks with Mauricio Pochettino
Pochettino has been unattached ever since he departed Chelsea over the summer
Pochettino steered Southampton to an eight-place finish in the Premier League before leaving for Tottenham where he got them to the 2019 Champions League final.
A former Argentina international as a player, Pochettino left Chelsea at the end of the last Premier League season - ending a campaign of turbulence in London with a respectable sixth-place finish.
He coached Lionel Messi - now at Inter Miami - Kylian Mbappe and Neymar during his time in France as Paris Saint-Germain boss. He won the French league but was fired due to a lack of Champions League success.
The USA vacancy holds added appeal given the United States is hosting the next World Cup alongside Canada and Mexico.
DailyMail.Com columnist Tim Howard has already backed Pochettino for the role.In his piece on July 12, the former Manchester United goalkeeper said: 'I’ve always loved Mauricio Pochettino.
'His teams have a real identity and attacking flair. He would suit this USMNT, which is set up for success – young, dynamic and full of skill.'
