A Buenos Aires court has ordered a nationwide block of prediction market platform Polymarket, citing illegal gambling operations.
Judge Susana Parada’s ruling mandates internet providers restrict access and requires Google and Apple to remove Polymarket’s app from their Argentine stores. The decision follows an investigation by prosecutor Juan Rozas, who argued the platform operated as a “concealed online betting system” without identity or age verification-potentially allowing minors to place bets.
The case originated from complaints by Buenos Aires gambling regulators, who said Polymarket lacked proper licensing. The move coincided with heightened scrutiny after unusual trading activity ahead of Argentina’s February inflation data release.
This marks Argentina’s entry into a growing list of countries-including France, Germany, Italy, Australia, Singapore, Portugal, Hungary, Thailand, and the Netherlands-that have restricted Polymarket over gambling law violations.
