Recent crypto kidnapping incidents in France are orchestrated by organizers based overseas, French law enforcement reports. A confidential police analysis indicates over 40 such cases occurred in France between July 2023 and the end of 2025. These operations involve foreign coordinators who employ French-based recruiters. These recruiters then find young individuals with criminal histories to conduct online intimidation and physical assaults.
The typical victims are men aged 20 to 35 involved in digital assets as investors, entrepreneurs, or influencers. Many victims inadvertently reveal their wealth and routines on social media, making them and their families targets.
Blockchain security firm CertiK labels physical attacks against crypto holders a "structural threat." The firm's report highlights a 75% surge in "wrench attacks" last year - where criminals use violence to force victims to reveal private keys or passwords. In 2025, 71 incidents led to over $40.9 million in losses. Physical assaults alone saw a 250% increase, signaling a significant escalation in brutality.
