Senator Elizabeth Warren has given President Donald Trump one week to disclose his cryptocurrency earnings. In a letter dated July 16, the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee requested a voluntary financial disclosure covering Trump’s crypto-related income and holdings from January 1 through July 15, 2026, with a deadline of July 23.
The timing coincides with Senate debate on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, or CLARITY Act, which would create a regulatory framework for crypto markets. Warren argues Congress cannot responsibly legislate while the president holds undisclosed crypto wealth that new laws could directly affect.
The $1.4 Billion Backdrop
Trump’s 2025 public financial disclosure showed approximately $1.4 billion in income from crypto ventures. This more than doubled his 2024 crypto earnings and exceeded the revenue of any publicly traded cryptocurrency company that year.
The primary source is World Liberty Financial, the Trump family’s crypto business that has sparked ethics debates in Washington. Warren has previously contacted the SEC over potential conflicts of interest and investor protection concerns related to the venture.
The CLARITY Act Collision Course
The CLARITY Act aims to establish regulatory structure for digital asset markets, defining which tokens qualify as securities versus commodities and setting clearer rules for exchanges and token issuers. Senate Republicans and the White House strongly support the bill.
Warren worries the legislation, as currently structured, could inadvertently boost the value of the Trump family’s crypto holdings without adequate ethical safeguards. Her request for a mid-year voluntary disclosure attempts to address this gap before the Act moves further.
A Pattern of Escalation
This letter continues Warren’s months-long focus on Trump’s crypto conflicts. She has previously raised concerns with the SEC about World Liberty Financial, questioning whether the venture creates conflicts for a sitting president with influence over digital asset regulators.
