Bhutan is making a bold move to attract crypto and fintech firms. Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC), the Himalayan kingdom's special economic zone, has introduced a fast-track licensing pathway for companies already regulated in major financial hubs.

The program bundles incorporation, regulatory review, and banking access into a single process. Firms licensed in Singapore, Hong Kong, or Abu Dhabi Global Market can bypass redundant paperwork and start operations quickly in Bhuta.

GMC is targeting crypto exchanges, fintech startups, and blockchain infrastructure providers. The zone leverages rigorous due diligence from established regulators like the Monetary Authority of Singapore and the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong.

Economic incentives include a potential 0% corporate tax rate for priority sectors, depending on the investment level. Bhutan offers abundant hydropower reserves, providing green energy for energy-intensive operations like blockchain mining.

This initiative follows Bhutan's quiet development of sovereign Bitcoin mining powered by its hydroelectric grid. GMC positions digital finance as a key pillar of its economic vision, blending technology with sustainability and a unique philosophical approach to urban development.

By aligning with Singapore, Hong Kong, and ADGM, GMC offers near-zero taxes and hydropower-backed green energy, something these competing hubs cannot match.
