Online forums and comment sections are becoming a new frontier for cryptocurrency scams. Users are reporting a deceptive tactic where individuals posing as confused "newbies" publicly share their seed phrases.

This isn't a genuine mistake. The shared seed phrase, often containing tokens like USDT or USDC on Ethereum, appears to be a lucrative opportunity. However, the wallet lacks the necessary native cryptocurrency, such as ETH, to cover transaction fees. The scam aims to entice victims to send a small amount of ETH to cover these fees, which are then immediately swept away by automated bots or multisig configurations, leaving the victim with nothing.

This sophisticated trap preys on greed and overconfidence, making victims complicit in their own loss. The lack of direct threats or phishing links makes these scams particularly insidious, as those who fall victim are unlikely to report the incident. Authorities advise completely ignoring such posts, refraining from interacting, and never attempting to access or verify these publicly shared seed phrases.
