OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced a 2.5x weekly surge in usage for the company's agentic products, Codex and ChatGPT Work. These tools handle complex workflows with minimal human oversight.

The growth follows the April launch of the GPT-5.5 model, which was engineered for improved agentic capabilities in coding and computer-based tasks. By late June, 98% of OpenAI's own employees were using Codex agents.

This development highlights a stark contrast with the cryptocurrency market. Dozens of tokens, such as Fetch.ai and SingularityNET, have built value propositions around autonomous AI agents operating on-chain. OpenAI's surge demonstrates that powerful agentic AI can scale rapidly using traditional cloud infrastructure and API calls, without requiring a blockchain or token.
