Robinhood's Head of Crypto has detailed an ambitious plan to address Ethereum's scaling challenges by developing a proprietary Layer-2 network. This initiative aims to overcome usability barriers hindering mass adoption of digital assets.
The company chose to build on Ethereum due to its inherent security and the widespread liquidity across EVM-compatible chains. Unlike many newer Layer-1 blockchains, Ethereum offers deep decentralization and long-term security guarantees, preventing them from becoming mere databases.
This development aligns with Vitalik Buterin's vision of Ethereum as a foundational layer for a "sanctuary-tech" ecosystem. This infrastructure aims to provide censorship-resistant tools for value storage, coordination, and communication, enabling users to maintain custody and privacy independent of centralized authorities.
