Ethereum's long-awaited account abstraction, also known as smart accounts, is slated for deployment within a year, according to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. This feature, discussed since 2016, aims to address remaining problems in account abstraction via EIP-8141.
Smart accounts will enable features like multi-signatures, quantum-resistant wallets, and changeable keys. A key innovation is the "frame transactions" concept, where a transaction becomes a sequence of self-referential "frames" authorizing a sender or gas payer. This allows for gas payments in non-ETH tokens through a "paymaster contract," aligning with Ethereum's core principle of intermediary minimization.

Buterin also noted that this development will allow privacy protocol users to replace "public broadcasters" with a general-purpose public mempool, significantly improving user experience for platforms like Railgun and Tornado Cash.
All Ethereum accounts, including existing ones, will be integrated into this framework, gaining capabilities for batch operations and transaction sponsorship. This advancement is part of Ethereum's broader roadmap towards quantum resistance and improved scaling.
