Rising gold and silver prices are driving young Singaporeans to invest in vintage coins and licensed collectibles.
At the recent Singapore International Coin Fair at Marina Bay Sands, all 2,000 units of an exclusive dragon-themed gold-and-silver set-priced at S$688 each-sold out within three days. Secondary market listings now show prices up to double the original.
The Singapore Mint reports growing demand from younger buyers drawn to collaborations with brands like Pokemon and Peanuts. These themed pieces make precious metals feel more accessible and culturally relevant.
“Gold and silver recently has been the hype-and the prices have been increasing very, very high,” said Catherina Ler, the mint’s executive director.
Collectors say limited serial numbers and cultural motifs add premium value. Financial services consultant Cheang Sai Kiat, who began collecting in 2012, now shares his vintage British colonial-era currency with his niece and nephew-bridging generations through shared collecting passions.
