England has launched a £6.3 million fund to combat widening health inequalities affecting men and older boys in the country's most deprived areas. The Men’s Health Community Fund, a partnership between People’s Health Trust, the UK government, and Movember, will support grassroots organizations.
Data reveals men in disadvantaged areas can die up to 11 years earlier than those in wealthier regions, with healthy life expectancy dropping significantly in some areas. The program focuses on life stages like job loss, fatherhood, and retirement, addressing issues such as poor housing, low income, and mental health.
Experts cite social inequality, low help-seeking behavior, and late diagnoses as key drivers of rising male mortality rates, with over a third of men in England dying before age 75. The fund aims to encourage men to seek support through trusted local networks, aligning with the government's Men’s Health Strategy.
