Nurses in British Columbia are nearing job action after contract negotiations stalled over benefits. The BC Nurses’ Union announced an impasse following an arbitrator's ruling that caps massage therapy coverage at just over $1,400 in 2027, with further reductions planned.
Union president Adriane Gear stated that maintaining and improving benefits is the top priority for members, alongside issues of equity and access to mandated funds. The union has been in talks with the employer for eight months. The Health Employers Association of B.C. remains open to further discussions, and B.C.'s Health Minister expressed confidence a deal will be reached, noting that healthcare is an essential service with limitations on job action.
The union is now preparing for a strike vote.
