Johnson & Johnson Chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato declared that curing certain cancers is a realistic goal within the next decade. Speaking at the WSJ Leadership Institute CEO Summit in London, Duato stated the pharmaceutical giant aims to eliminate specific malignancies while transforming others into chronic diseases.

Duato cited multiple myeloma as a primary example of this progress. Life expectancy for this condition has risen from single digits to ten years. New immunotherapies now utilize the patient's own immune system to attack cancer cells. Patients previously entering hospice are achieving remission exceeding five years following a single administration.
The company is actively researching cancer biology to develop targeted technologies. Beyond oncology, Duato identified dementia as a critical area requiring scientific advancement. He also predicted continued increases in global life expectancy driven by emerging longevity solutions.

Artificial intelligence serves as a force multiplier in this strategy. J&J recently acquired Firefly Bio to target difficult gene mutations. Medical experts agree that AI and biomarkers will enable earlier diagnoses and personalized surgical approaches, fundamentally altering the trajectory of cancer care.
