Clover Hill Dairy has expanded its product recall to include all cheese varieties following a fatal listeria outbreak. The Maryland-based manufacturer confirmed one death and eight hospitalizations linked to contaminated products as of June 18. The Food and Drug Administration reports nine total illnesses associated with this safety breach.

Federal health agencies initially targeted soft ricotta cheese earlier this month before widening the scope. The current recall encompasses all soft cuajada, ricotta, cheddar, colby, jack, and flavored cheese varieties. These items were distributed through retail markets, farmers markets, and third-party distributors in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.

Consumers must identify products by manufacturer permit number 24-128 on packaging labels. Contaminated inventory may also carry alternative brand names including KESSO, QUESOS LA RICURA, IZALCO, DE MI PUEBLO, and RIO LINDO. Health officials advise immediate disposal or return of these items for refund.

Listeria monocytogenes poses severe risks to pregnant women, the elderly, and immunocompromised individuals. Symptoms range from fever and muscle aches to confusion and convulsions, potentially appearing up to ten weeks after consumption. High-risk individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.

Sanitation protocols require cleaning affected refrigerators and surfaces with a chlorine bleach solution. Consumers with questions regarding the expanded recall may contact the Southern Maryland Agricultural Development Commission during standard business hours.
