A large real-world study shows GLP-1 receptor agonists significantly reduce the risk of cancer therapy-related cardiac dysfunction, a major complication of modern oncology.
Researchers analyzed international health records from 2017 to 2025, comparing cancer patients who received these drugs during cardiotoxic treatments. The protective effects were strongest in women, younger patients, those with excess weight, and Type 2 diabetics.
Benefits held across multiple cancer treatments, especially anthracycline chemotherapy. While not proof of cause, the findings support further study of GLP-1s as a cardioprotective strategy. Prospective trials are needed to confirm optimal use.
