Green Shirt Day, honoring the memory of Logan Boulet, encourages Canadians to register as organ donors.

Boulet, a 21-year-old defenceman, died in the 2018 Humboldt Broncos bus crash in Saskatchewan. His wish to donate organs saved six lives.

His parents started the "Logan Boulet Effect," leading to over 150,000 new donor registrations. The Saskatchewan government reports increased registration rates.

As of December 2024, 4,044 Canadians waited for organs, with 691 deaths or withdrawals. In 2024, 3,203 transplants occurred nationwide.

Canadian Institute for Health Information noted a 6% drop in deceased donors in 2024. A new data system, CanODT, aims to modernize organ donation reporting.

"It really starts with an individual and their family’s consent," said Nicole de Guia. Campaigns like Green Shirt Day spark vital family conversations.
