A multicenter study reveals men living with HIV face a significantly higher burden of sexual dysfunction and mental health challenges.

The research compared 112 HIV-infected men with 110 healthy controls. It found 43.8% of the HIV-positive group experienced premature ejaculation, more than double the 20.9% rate in the healthy group.

The study also measured depression. Men with HIV and premature ejaculation had notably higher depression scores than those without the condition.

Analysis confirmed that depression severity is independently associated with premature ejaculation, even after accounting for age and other health factors. This suggests a strong, direct link between the two conditions.

Experts conclude that integrated care addressing both mental and sexual health is crucial for improving the quality of life for men living with HIV. Routine screening for depression could help identify patients at risk for sexual dysfunction.
