Microsoft has launched Copilot Health, a new AI assistant designed to help consumers understand their medical data. Available initially via a U.S. waitlist, the tool aims to explain lab results and assist in preparing questions for doctor's appointments.

Copilot Health functions as a specialized search engine, capable of identifying physicians based on location, specialty, and insurance acceptance. Microsoft emphasizes the reliability of its answers, citing information from credible health organizations verified by their clinical team. The AI incorporates data from U.S. healthcare providers via the HealthEx platform, doctor's visit summaries, and lab results from providers like Function Health.

Further integration extends to over 50 wearables, including the Apple Watch, allowing Copilot Health to incorporate biometric data such as heart rate and sleep patterns. Microsoft assures users that health data is stored separately, encrypted, and offers controls for deletion and disconnection from third-party services.

This launch places Microsoft alongside other tech giants entering the personal health AI space, with OpenAI's ChatGPT Health and Amazon's Health AI also offering similar functionalities. Anthropic has also introduced personal health features for its Claude assistant.
