After rising to a peak of 34, the number of confirmed meningitis cases in the UK has dropped to 29, according to the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). As of 12:30pm on 21st March, 20 lab-confirmed cases and nine under investigation were reported. No new cases have been recorded since the last update.

The outbreak involves meningococcal group B disease (MenB) in Kent, UK. Two people have died from related infections, with no additional deaths since 15th March.

Authorities are working with NHS England to manage the outbreak. Sherine Thomas, an infectious diseases consultant at UKHSA, emphasized the importance of vigilance and public awareness of symptoms. Over 4,500 vaccinations and 10,500 antibiotic doses have been administered to eligible individuals.

Following a case in France potentially linked to the Kent outbreak, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control stated that the EU and EEA population remains at very low risk due to a long incubation period.
