Quebec is considering a ban on the sale of energy drinks to minors under 16 after a teenager died following consumption of Red Bull during a school ski trip in 2024.

The boy, Zachary Miron, had taken ADHD medication earlier that day. He consumed a Red Bull from a vending machine and died while riding a chairlift.
His parents, David Miron and Veronica Martinez, met with Health Minister Sonia Bélanger to advocate for the ban. The minister said she is reviewing the proposal and consulting experts.
Bélanger noted that countries like England, Norway, Latvia, and Lithuania have already implemented similar bans. A petition by Quebec Solidaire MNA Guillaume Cliche-Rivard has gathered over 15,000 signatures.
The parents and Cliche-Rivard hope to introduce a bipartisan bill to prohibit energy drink sales to those under 18 before the current legislative session ends.
