SINGAPORE: Pork blood products will soon be available in Singapore for the first time in 27 years.

The Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced Wednesday it has approved imports of heat-treated pork blood from the Bangkhla Pig Slaughterhouse in Thailand. The approval follows food safety assessments.

Each shipment must be accompanied by an official health certificate from Thailand's Department of Livestock Development, certifying compliance with Singapore's health and safety requirements.

Animal blood food products, including pork and duck blood, were banned in Singapore in 1999. The ban was triggered by the Nipah virus outbreak, as blood was identified as a potential source for transmitting viruses and food-borne pathogens. In 2022, a woman was fined S$8,000 for possessing and selling illegally imported pig blood curd.
