‘This is the same board that promised transparency,’ said Woodfin. Late last week, the City of Birmingham filed a lawsuit against CAW, claiming they failed to notify of fluoride removal which threatens residents' dental health.
CAW denied comments on the case. Fluoride is recommended by the ADA and AAP to prevent tooth decay, especially in children. Harvard researchers estimated that RFK Jr.’s pledge to remove fluoride could result in 25 million more decayed teeth among children and teens.
Health experts, like Scott Tomar from UIC, argue that fluoride-containing toothpaste isn’t enough to justify removing fluoride from drinking water, as fluoridation helps prevent cavities and protects the youngest children most.
