A fierce brawl erupted between the Los Angeles Angels and Atlanta Braves Tuesday night during the bottom of the fifth inning. The incident escalated when Braves pitcher Reynaldo López threw a pitch high and inside to Angels slugger Jorge Soler.
Soler appeared to take exception to the pitch and charged López, initiating a physical confrontation. Braves manager Walt Weiss intervened, tackling Soler to the ground to prevent further escalation. Both Soler and López were ejected from the game.
López stated there was no intent to hit Soler, attributing the pitch to an overthrow. Soler, however, cited his previous success against López and the proximity of the pitch to his head as reasons for his reaction. The Braves ultimately won the game 7-2.
