Australian teen sprint sensation Gout Gout will expand his program at the under-20 world championships in Eugene, Oregon this August. The 18-year-old, who set a U20 world record of 19.67 seconds in the 200m at the Australian championships in April, will also compete in the 4x400m relay.
Gout bypassed the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to focus on these events. He expressed confidence in performing at Hayward Field, stating, "I know it's a great stadium and place to run fast."
His relay inclusion follows Australia's surprise bronze medal in the men's 4x400m at the World Athletics Relays in Botswana earlier this month. Gout, who burst onto the global stage with a 200m silver at the 2024 U20 worlds at age 16, is being compared to Usain Bolt for his potential across sprints. He holds a 100m personal best of 10.00 seconds.
