Norway's Atle Lie McGrath won a men's Alpine skiing World Cup slalom by the slimmest of margins in Slovenia, a significant step towards his first Crystal Globe title.

McGrath, overcoming the disappointment of crashing out of the Olympic slalom, now leads Norwegian-born Brazilian Lucas Pinheiro Braathen by 41 points with one race remaining. Braathen finished third in Kranjska Gora, behind teammate Henrik Kristoffersen.

McGrath, who has historically lost victories by fractions of a second, expressed his joy at finally being on the winning side of the hundredths. He highlighted the significance of the upcoming final race in Hafjell, where he and Braathen grew up skiing.

McGrath dedicated the victory to his late grandfather, who passed away during the Milano Cortina Olympic opening ceremony, believing his grandfather was watching over him.
