Two riders are in the hospital after separate, violent crashes at the Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday. The race was red-flagged twice as a result.

Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing slammed into the back of Pedro Acosta's KTM after a sudden power loss. The impact sent Marquez crashing into the wall and cartwheeling across the gravel. Scans revealed a fracture on a vertebra near his neck and a broken right collarbone. He is scheduled for surgery tonight.

Later, after the race restarted, LCR Honda's Johann Zarco triggered a three-rider pile-up on turn one. He braked late, taking out Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia and Honda's Luca Marini. Zarco tumbled across the gravel with his leg caught on Bagnaia's bike. He suffered snapped knee ligaments and a small fracture at the bottom of his left fibula. Both riders are being kept in the hospital overnight for observation.
