The reports of Aaron Rodgers returning to Pittsburgh appear to have been greatly exaggerated.
Despite speculation that the four-time MVP was heading to the Steel City for a visit with the Steelers, ESPN's Adam Schefter said Monday he's heard nothing of the sort from either the team or Rodgers' agent.
One report suggested Rodgers was in Pittsburgh to play golf, not to meet with the team. Regardless, the decision on where he'll play in 2026 remains up in the air.
The Steelers have protected themselves by placing an unrestricted free-agent tender on Rodgers, giving them the right to match any offer from another team.
Schefter said he still believes Rodgers will be on the Steelers' roster when training camp begins. OTAs are scheduled to start next Monday.
Rodgers led Pittsburgh to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth last season, completing 3,322 yards with 24 touchdowns and just seven interceptions. The Steelers lost in the Wild Card round, extending their playoff winless streak to eight seasons.
Now, the team has a new head coach in Mike McCarthy, Rodgers' former coach in Green Bay. Mike Tomlin's 19-year run in Pittsburgh ended after last season.
The Steelers also added wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and drafted Alabama's Germie Bernard. Running back Rico Dowdle joins the backfield alongside Jaylen Warren.
The question that looms over the NFL: will Aaron Rodgers be under center for this new-look Steelers team in 2026?
