Audi is set to make its Formula 1 debut in 2026, rebranding the Sauber team as the Audi Revolut F1 Team. The new identity and leadership structure, featuring F1 veterans Jonathan Wheatley and Mattia Binotto, signals an aggressive pursuit of credibility, points, and momentum.

Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto will drive for the rebranded team, hoping the new titanium silver, carbon black, and Audi red livery translates to improved performance on the track.

Jonathan Wheatley, known for his championship-winning roles with Benetton, Renault, and Red Bull, has joined as Team Principal. His experience in building high-performing teams is central to Audi's strategy for transforming the established but struggling Sauber outfit.

Wheatley described the move as an opportunity to see what else he was capable of in his career before leaving Formula One. He is working alongside former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto, forming a co-leadership structure overseeing racing, operations, and technical direction.

The team is establishing a new engineering hub in Bicester, Oxfordshire, while maintaining its headquarters in Switzerland. Audi's backing, as a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, provides significant resources.

Wheatley's immediate focus is on streamlining processes, ensuring resources are spent effectively, and enhancing performance both on and off the track. He implemented changes gradually to avoid disrupting the team during the season.
