Austria's Julia Scheib has claimed her first World Cup giant slalom title, winning the crystal globe in Are, Sweden. Switzerland's Camille Rast's failure to finish her second run secured the title for Scheib, who now holds an unassailable lead.

Scheib, trailing Rast after the first run, delivered a strong performance in the second to win the race by 0.36 seconds. American Paula Moltzan finished second, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking third.

This marks the first giant slalom World Cup title for an Austrian woman since Eva-Maria Brem in 2016. Scheib, 27, expressed her long-held ambition to win the globe, stating, "Winning the giant slalom globe has been a goal of mine for many years. And to achieve it today means a lot to me."

Earlier this season, Scheib secured her maiden World Cup victory in Soelden. She acknowledged the challenge of maintaining consistency across varying conditions. "To be honest, no," she responded when asked if she expected to win the globe after her earlier victory. "Because to be so consistent is not so easy, we had different conditions. I don't know what to say. This is amazing."

Mikaela Shiffrin, who was seeking her 109th career World Cup win, finished fifth. Shiffrin leads the overall standings.
