Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff claims rival manufacturers are coordinating to pressure the FIA into altering engine rules. Wolff stated that Mercedes is prepared for a potential rule change, calling the situation a "storm in a teacup" that will not impact his team.
Rivals have accused Mercedes of exploiting a loophole in engine regulations related to compression ratios and thermal expansion. Wolff acknowledged that if performance claims were accurate, rivals might feel pressure, but questioned the process.
"If you have four other PUs that are putting immense pressure on the FIA at a certain stage, what choice do we have than not to play?" Wolff asked, referencing Ferrari, Audi, Red Bull, and Honda as the other power unit suppliers.
He expressed philosophical disagreement with the method, stating, "Everybody else gangs up and says it's illegal. The regulators are being put under pressure. Is that how it should go?"
Wolff also dismissed media speculation about Mercedes having issues with certifying their sustainable fuel, calling such reports "total bullshit."
