Alexander Zverev is one win away from his first Grand Slam title after defeating 26th seed Jakub Mensik 7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at Roland Garros. The 29-year-old German, who has lost three major finals, will face the winner of Flavio Cobolli and Matteo Arnaldi.
"I knew it would be my toughest challenge," Zverev said. "He played amazing in the third set, but this is a Grand Slam with best-of-five. You have to deal with it."
The match swung early when Zverev broke Mensik in the 11th game of the opening set. He cruised through the second, but the 20-year-old Czech fought back, using drop shots and a booming serve to take the third set. A neck injury timeout slowed Mensik's momentum, and Zverev controlled the fourth set without drama.
