Belgium defender Timothy Castagne has warned his team cannot depend on late heroics when they face the United States in the World Cup round of 16.

The squad experienced a rollercoaster of emotions after scoring twice in five minutes to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Senegal and win 3-2 in a dramatic tiebreaker.

"I think at 80 minutes, you never would think it would change in five minutes' time," Castagne said. "We have a lot to work on because obviously we don't want to be in these positions and we cannot rely on scoring two goals in five minutes to go through again."

Captain Youri Tielemans, who scored the equalizer and the winning penalty, missed training as part of a recovery plan. Manager Rudi Garcia also defended his tactical decisions after substituting key players, proving selections are based on performance, not reputation.

Belgium faces the co-host United States in Seattle on Monday. Castagne noted that the partisan home crowd could become "a double-edged sword" if pressure mounts on the American side.
