Tottenham Hotspur has received a significant boost in their Premier League survival battle with the return of midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur to the squad for Saturday's home match against Brighton & Hove Albion.
Bentancur has been sidelined since early January due to a serious hamstring injury requiring surgery. Spurs currently sit in 18th place with six games remaining, two points adrift of safety and facing potential relegation for the first time since 1977.
The availability of Bentancur and Yves Bissouma is welcome news for new manager Roberto De Zerbi ahead of his first home game. However, Argentina international Cristian Romero is ruled out for the remainder of the season with a knee injury.
"Bentancur is available to play," De Zerbi confirmed. "I don't know if he'll start the game or not. Bissouma is available."
De Zerbi, Tottenham's third manager this season, emphasized the importance of mentality alongside ability for the club's survival prospects. He recently took the first team out for a meal to improve team morale, stating, "I believe in human relationships and the spirit and the soul of the players."
