The New York Mets are set to honor team legend Carlos Beltrán by retiring his No. 15 on September 19. This move signifies a reconciliation with the recent Hall of Fame electee, who was previously slated to manage the team in 2020.
Beltrán's tenure as manager ended abruptly due to his involvement in the Houston Astros' sign-stealing scandal. Despite this controversy, Beltrán is recognized as one of the franchise's greatest players, ranking third in WAR, fourth in OPS, and seventh in home runs and RBIs.
A nine-time All-Star, Beltrán amassed 2,725 hits, 435 home runs, and 300 stolen bases, making him a member of the exclusive 300-300 club. His Hall of Fame plaque will feature a Mets cap, making him the third Met to be enshrined in Cooperstown.
