Ducati rider Marc Marquez has secured his first pole position of the season at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez. Marquez utilized his extensive experience in the challenging wet conditions to claim top spot, edging out LCR Honda veteran Johann Zarco by a mere 0.140 seconds.
"Qualifying and practice are not my strongest point, but the fact that it was half conditions, wet, that is where normally I feel comfortable," Marquez stated. The reigning MotoGP champion's lap time was one minute and 48.087 seconds.
Zarco, who advanced through Q1, initially held pole position but Marquez's late charge proved decisive as the track began to dry. "I'm happy for the pole and it will help for both races," Marquez added.
VR46 Racing's Fabio Di Giannantonio qualified third, completing the front row, followed by Marco Bezzecchi in fourth. The unpredictable weather led to several crashes during Q2, including incidents for Alex Marquez, Fermin Aldeguer, and Jorge Martin. Pedro Acosta will start sixth.
