Marc Marquez shattered the Sachsenring lap record to take pole for the German MotoGP Grand Prix. The factory Ducati rider clocked 1:19.041 to secure his third pole of the season.

Marquez finished 0.061 seconds clear of his brother Alex Marquez, locking out the front row for the Gresini Racing rider. Former record holder Fabio Di Giannantonio qualified third.

The session was marred by a serious incident involving Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi. The Italian, already recovering from a crash at Assen, suffered a crash on his second flying lap. He was diagnosed with a complete and displaced fracture of his left clavicle and will miss the remainder of the weekend for surgery.

Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo advanced from Q1 to qualify sixth, while championship contender Francesco Bagnaia could only manage 11th on his Ducati.
