Egypt's national team director, Ibrahim Hassan, has warned Liverpool star Mohamed Salah against joining Major League Soccer after his contract ends.
Hassan believes a move to MLS would remove Salah, 33, from the global football spotlight. He cited Lionel Messi’s reduced visibility since joining Inter Miami in 2023 as a cautionary example.
"You won’t remember Salah any more than I remember Messi now," Hassan said.
Salah has yet to confirm his next destination after a trophy-laden nine-year run at Liverpool, where he claimed two Premier League titles and a Champions League trophy.
European clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and several Serie A teams are reportedly interested. Hassan supports a continued European career for the Egyptian superstar.
If Europe doesn't materialize, Hassan suggests the Saudi Pro League as a viable alternative, pointing to the presence of global icons like Cristiano Ronaldo.
Currently sidelined by injury, Salah will miss Egypt’s training camp ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Egypt faces Spain in a friendly in Barcelona following a 4-0 win over Saudi Arabia.
