Serena Williams is reportedly preparing for a return to competitive tennis, according to her former coach Rick Macci. Macci stated that the 23-time Grand Slam champion is "going all out" in training. Williams, who last competed at the 2022 U.S. Open, rejoined the anti-doping testing pool last year, a prerequisite for re-entering tournaments.
Despite Williams' past statements about evolving away from the sport, Macci expressed no doubt about her intentions. "She's training with lots of sparring partners - guys," he told L'Equipe. "We're not just talking about doubles here... she's going all out. If she didn't think she could compete with the best and win matches, she wouldn't do it. It's 100 per cent certain she'll dive back into competition."
Macci, who coached the Williams sisters in the early 1990s, believes her competitive spirit remains strong. He suggested that Indian Wells or the Miami Open could be potential venues for her comeback next month.
