Linda Noskova captured her first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon, surviving a dramatic fightback from fellow Czech Karolina Muchova to win 6-2, 5-7, 6-3.
The victory on Centre Court made the 21-year-old the third Czech woman to win the Wimbledon singles title in four years. Her triumph adds to a legacy that includes Petra Kvitova and the late Jana Novotna.
The match was a battle of attrition. Noskova dominated the first set but squandered five match points in the second as Muchova fought back to force a decider. The tension visibly affected both players.
"It feels incredible," Noskova said, clutching the Venus Rosewater Dish. "All these matches have been so physically or mentally tough."
The final set saw Noskova regain control early. She sealed the championship on her sixth match point with an unreturnable serve before collapsing to the grass in relief.
In an emotional ceremony, Noskova dedicated the win to her late mother, who passed away on the eve of the 2024 Championships. Her tribute moved champions watching from the Royal Box, including Martina Navratilova and Kvitova, to tears.
Muchova, the 2023 French Open runner-up, was gracious in defeat despite the heartbreak. "I want that trophy and I hope I'll get a chance to get to the final again," she said.
