LOS ANGELES - Team USA overwhelmed two squads packed with NFL talent to win the inaugural Flag Football Classic on Saturday, proving that flag football demands a unique blend of speed and evasion distinct from tackle football.

The event, relocated from Riyadh due to geopolitical tensions, served as a preview for flag football’s Olympic debut at BMO Stadium during the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Tom Brady led the Founders FFC, connecting with Rob Gronkowski on a two-point conversion. But despite star power from players like Jalen Hurts and Joe Burrow, the NFL veterans struggled with flag-pulling mechanics and defensive agility.

Team USA, led by quarterback Darrell Doucette, won both round-robin matchups and defeated Burrow’s Wildcats FCC 24-14 in the final.

"They did a great job," Brady said. "These kids are talented and humble. We’re behind strategically, but this was a valuable experiment."

NFL players remain eligible for the U.S. Olympic flag team, though Brady dismissed personal return rumors. "Whoever gives the best chance to win should be out there," he said.

Coach Jorge Cascudo joked that his team’s edge is temporary. "Once the NFL guys learn the game, we’re in trouble. But for now, we’re the champs."

BMO Stadium, scaled for a smaller field, featured expanded VIP zones and entertainment flair, including YouTuber Logan Paul suiting up for the Wildcats. Attendance lagged despite the spectacle, with empty seats visible during the heatwave.
