FIFA has launched a formal investigation into alleged racist abuse targeting American streamer IShowSpeed during a World Cup 2026 match in Miami.

The incident occurred July 3 at Hard Rock Stadium during Argentina's 3-2 victory over Cape Verde. IShowSpeed, whose real name is Darren Watkins Jr., was livestreaming from the stands wearing a Cape Verde jersey.

Footage from his stream shows some Argentina supporters allegedly directing derogatory comments at him, including racial slurs. The video immediately went viral, sparking widespread condemnation.

FIFA issued a statement four days later emphasizing its "strong stance against racism and discrimination." However, no arrests have been made and no disciplinary measures announced.

The livestream creates an unprecedented evidentiary record-real-time, unedited footage that's harder to dispute than traditional testimony. This has intensified pressure on FIFA, which has promoted the 2026 tournament as a celebration of diversity across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The incident has overshadowed what was a dramatic sporting contest, with the South American champions narrowly defeating a historic Cape Verde side in the expanded 48-team tournament.
