INGLEWOOD, California, June 25: The 2026 World Cup broke its scoring record during the U.S. Group D match against Turkey, with Auston Trusty's opening goal marking the 173rd goal. Turkey's two first-half goals brought the total to 175.

The record was established in the 59th match of the tournament, eclipsing the previous record of 172 goals from Qatar 2022, which was accumulated across 64 matches. The 2026 tournament includes 104 matches due to FIFA's expansion from 32 to 48 teams.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino stated, "Surpassing the previous highest of 172 goals from Qatar underscores the excitement and attacking prowess that have already made the 2026 World Cup unforgettable."
