AUGUSTA, Georgia - Former Masters champion Sergio Garcia expressed regret over his behavior during Sunday's final round at Augusta National. After smashing his driver on the second hole, Garcia was forced to play the remaining 16 holes without the club.
The 2017 Green Jacket winner, already far behind the leaders, struck his driver repeatedly in a fairway bunker before snapping the club. Rules prohibited him from replacing it due to damage caused in anger.
"Not super proud of it, but sometimes it happens," Garcia commented on the outburst. The incident led to a bizarre scene where Garcia was later seen carrying playing partner Jon Rahm's bag.
Despite the handicap, Garcia made par at the second hole but finished the round eight-over par. He quipped about the difficulty, stating, "It makes it very easy. I just have to hit 3-wood all the time."
