India's captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has dismissed concerns over opener Abhishek Sharma's form in the T20 World Cup. Sharma has registered three ducks in the group stage.
"I worry for the people who are worried about Abhishek's form," Suryakumar stated. "But I think about those teams who are going to play against him... When he scores a run, you have seen what happens. Last year he covered for us, now we will cover for him."
Sharma, a top-ranked T20 batter, has a strong record with two centuries and eight fifties for India. He was instrumental in India's Asia Cup win last year and recently scored a 14-ball half-century against New Zealand.
Despite Sharma's struggles, the team has performed well, winning all group games. Suryakumar highlighted the team's ability to score around 40-50 runs in the powerplay. He also noted the challenging wicket conditions encountered so far.
While Suryakumar wants to maintain Sharma and Ishan Kishan as openers, he emphasized the need for flexibility in the batting order from number three downwards to adapt to match situations.
